Straight, married with three kids, homeschooling, evangelical Christian of the Reformed variety. Okay, now that the scary part is out of the way, see "More about me" to find out why I support gay marriage in society and oppose it in the church.

A dose of reality
Wow. This captures why I think civil rights in society and freedom of conscience in the church must be respected when it comes to this issue. Every Christian with conservative views on homosexuality has to allow him- or herself to be tempered by the reality of what gay relationships are all about.

hi Misty, I recently found your blog. I had been suspecting that my 18 year old son might be gay, and indeed during Thanksgiving vacation while he was home from college, he came out to me, my husband, and our two older children. We are conservative evangelical Christians, and even though our son's "news" wasn't a total surprise we are struggling to understand and uncomfortable with the prospect of how our church may react when word gets around. I don't even know who among my friends I can even talk about it. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Kim,
Thanks for writing! You're not alone. A lot of parents have gone through this process, including many readers of this blog. How things would go if you were to reach out to your Christian friends depends on where they are at individually, and what kind of church you attend.
Why don't you write to me at "musingsonsite" at "gmail" dot "com". I'd be glad to talk to you in greater depth via email.
Also, Kim, here is a helpful place where you can get started:

That last part says: For_the_Parents.html
Dear Kim.
Try PFlag.
That's what it's there for--a support form for parents, friends, and family of lesbians and gays.
BTW--Don't seek for what you did wrong that your adult son is gay. If your son loves Jesus and you have open lines of communication, you did everything right!
